Well, what can I say? The greatest success starting series in many years is trying to put it's own pieces together again.
I heard that the writers of season 2 and volume 3 (Villains) were replaced by the writer of season 1, which was working on "Pushing Daisies", may it rest in peace. And I guess it worked, at least for me. The great number of characters, and weird powers (crying black goo and killing people around, or a "Fly" version of Mohinder) just made people loose their frail interest.
I know, they killed lots of characters, and unbalanced the duel between Peter and Sylar, as Peter stop being an "ability repository" to become a "switcher" (only one power at a time). And so Sylar became unstoppable, unless by his own crazed mind.
Spoilers ahead...
One of my favorite characters, Hiro, lost all his powers and became a dull character, powerless and not so funny. He later recovers some of his power with the baby Parkman, but starts suffering from bleeding nose and ears, meaning he couldn't be able to use his powers anymore, which is frustating.
Micah made some appearances and saved the day as Rebel, but got not enough space to make a difference. Her mother twin, Tracy Strauss has become a nice trade in the story: the confused Nicky/Jessica returns as the Ice Woman, not to say that she melted and turned into the Water Woman (not joking) which came back for revenge. There's still a third sister, but we haven't heard of her, yet.
And Nathan is dead... that was pointless, killing a nice complex personality character for no reason. Other heroes faced worse situations and escaped unharmed. Replacing him with a exchanged memories morphed Sylar was an even worse idea, as Sylar has become the only reason why the series goes on, and will return as soon as audience numbers drop, and they will.
Let's see if they will catch out attention once again.
